NoBlog 21: Jim Lovetoy Defends Mr. Chelsea...

A lot has been written about the personal life of John Terry this week. Since his sexual indiscretions were revealed in a Sunday newspaper last Saturday there are calls for him to be dropped as England captain as well as England skipper and reports that his sponsors, Umbro, aren’t willing to pay him to wear the England kit anymore, raising further questions about how appropriate it is to have a nude England captain as a role model to kids should he stay on.
Equality is a burning issue in this day and age and it seems particularly prelevant in this situation. Whenever men have affairs with their friends’ partners and get them pregnant they always get criticised, but does it not take two to conga? If Terry is to be banned from captaining England so should she be, let’s see how she likes it. It’s unfair to blame Terry for something he only did half of. The man was recently voted Dad of the Year so he can’t be that bad!
Like many people who were born in leafy suburbs, I’m originally from London. There’s an old saying from the East End which goes like this: Why are women known as birds? Because they’ve all got thrush.
I have to confess, I’ve never trusted women. When you’re good looking, high profile, inspirational and rich you’re always going to get women flocking to you and this of course happens to me on a daily basis. I’ve been with loads of them and they’re always funny about me reading through their texts and knowing where they are at all times. They’ve always got something to hide. Luckily for me I’ve never been involved in a kiss and tell story. The girls in question have been satisfied beyond the need for financial or material gain and they know I’m so well respected that if they tried to sell a story about me they’d be laughed at. For poor John Terry it’s a different story as the lady in question is now in talks to sell her trashy tale, which will only lead to further woe.
Let’s think about this in another way. Is what he did really even that bad? She’s a very, very attractive woman and it was only Wayne Bridge. He chose to leave Chelsea for more money at Manchester City after coming up through the youth team so he waived any right to loyalty. If anyone’s a Judas it’s him! If it had been Ashley Cole, a man who’s better at both football and loyalty, then it would be different, but Bridge should shake Terry’s hand and admit that the best man won. JT’s a dedicated leader and probably did this to make an example of Bridge and motivate the team.
If this hysteria is to claim Terry’s captaincy as England captain then who exactly could replace him? Steven Gerrard? He couldn’t captain a lilo. Wayne Bridge probably thinks he should get it but we’ve already seen how much loyalty he inspires. Admittedly David Beckham would be a good candidate as he has great leadership qualities. Perhaps unfairly he’s never been given the chance to lead England and would never be caught having an affair, but this isn’t the issue. JT can lead us to glory in Sarth Efrica and England losing him as captain will be England’s loss.
What’s encouraging is the way Terry’s Chelsea team mates have rallied around him. Perhaps seeing that something like this would happen due to the insight afforded by their renowned bromance, Super Frank Lampard once said that Terry is; “a man’s man.” It’s admirable that Lampard should try to provide an alibi for his friend and captain, however misguided, but Terry is clearly far too manly to be gay, in fact he’s such a warrior that he even scored in his first game after the story broke!
As we’ve seen before, Terry can come back from setbacks. After he missed the crucial penalty in The Champions League final (after Man United cheated and played for penalties) he then went on to score in his next game, for England. That basically made everything OK and to summarise I couldn’t put it better than John Terry himself did after that particular game: “The manager gave me a huge boost when he told me I was going to be captain and, hopefully, I´ve repaid him. I’ve shown that I´m a big man.” Chelsea, Chelsea!

Do you think Terry should stay on? Who would you replace him with? Is he a better dad than yours? Bet he isn’t.
